Going Back to the Source with Amanda Dates

Yoga and Terroir Camping Retreat

Terroir: (te-rw[a']r), specificity of place, which has come to include not only the soil in a region, but also the climate, the weather, the aspects and characteristics of the residents, and anything else that can possibly differentiate one place from another.

Save the Date! Friday, May 2 - Sunday, May 4, 2008

Yoga helps us get re-acquainted with our true and divine selves.

Terroir is the strong sense of groundedness one feels when getting in touch with the soil, air, water, and food of a particular place.

Going Back to the Source will be a yoga and terroir retreat held in West Marin this spring at beautiful Slide Ranch. On this three-day retreat we will practice yoga twice/day and spend the rest of our time going on farm tours through this bucolic region known as the birthplace of the sustainable agriculture movement. We will meet some of the steadfast farmers, ranchers, and fisher people who grow the good, clean, and fairly foraged food you see in the farmers markets, restaurants, and retail stores in the Bay Area.

We will be camping, but the food will be three star because Chef Russ's plan is to procure everything from the local farms, creameries, and ranches and prepare decadent, wholesome meals!

I had a salad tonight at a restaurant (al fresco for perhaps the last time this year) and, for the first time, I had a mental image of where it came from. Seeing it on the menu and later on my plate, I pictured the row of frisée at the Zen center extending up the hill to the edge of the field and how delicious it looked then-- and it was delicious.

Thank you Amanda, Greg, and Russ. I haven't felt this happy in a long time. This weekend was very special and I appreciate all the effort you put in to making it so.
